Type 304 is the most widely used austenitic stainless steel, containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel for outstanding resistance to a wide range of atmospheric and chemical corrosives. Compliant with ASTM A276, it combines 73,200 PSI tensile strength with excellent formability and toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and is readily weldable by all standard fusion methods.
