About Bobco Metals
BOBCO METALS LLC is one of Los Angeles' oldest and most trusted metal suppliers, proudly serving the industry for over 50 years. Founded by Bob Blaugrund after returning from the Pacific Theater, Bobco evolved into "The Supermarket of Metals."
Our metal products are backed by in-house fabrication, expert craftsmanship, and decades of hands-on industry experience.
Bobco began as a scrap and secondary metal yard and grew into a leading wholesale and retail distributor serving the industrial and construction sectors across Southern California.
In the 1970s, Bobco relocated to a one-acre site between 20th and 22nd Streets on Alameda Street. The facility featured two iconic rectangular metal structures—one enclosed for non-ferrous metals and one open for steel and yard operations. Located in the industrial heart of downtown Los Angeles, the site remains a vital logistics hub just blocks from the city's produce, fashion, and shipping districts.
In 1980, Bobco was acquired by the Shooshani family, who expanded the business with a second warehouse, a tubing mill, and a full-service retail store for hardware and fabrication. Despite the company's growth, the building's exterior remained largely unchanged for decades.
Partnering with architect Reza Bagherzadeh and Arshia, Bobco reimagined its offices and showroom using its own metal and in-house crew—while remaining fully operational. The result was a sculptural transformation that earned the prestigious AIA Design Award for Interior Architecture.
This award-winning project demonstrates the versatility of metal in construction and shows how thoughtful design can elevate even the most utilitarian structures—revitalizing both a building and its surrounding neighborhood while remaining functional and cost-effective.
