Type 303 is an austenitic stainless steel specifically engineered for superior machinability. The addition of sulfur in its composition acts as a chip breaker, reducing tool wear and allowing for higher cutting speeds. It provides good corrosion resistance in mild environments and is non-magnetic in the annealed condition. Compliant with ASTM A582, this grade cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working.
