Type 303 is an austenitic stainless steel specifically modified with sulfur to provide superior machinability, making it the most easily machined grade of stainless steel. Conforming to ASTM A582, it features 90,000 PSI tensile strength and good corrosion resistance in mild environments. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
As a small 1/8" diameter bar, this product is perfectly suited for high-volume automated machining of small components. It is commonly specified for fastener blanks, precision dowel pins, small shafts, bushings, and complex parts produced on screw machines where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are critical.
