Type 303 is an austenitic stainless steel specifically engineered for superior machinability through the addition of sulfur. This modification promotes chip breaking and reduces tool wear, making it a primary choice for automated machining. It conforms to ASTM A582, providing good corrosion resistance in mild environments, and is non-magnetic in its annealed state. Welding is not recommended.
