- 1018 Carbon Steel Construction
- ASTM A108 Certified
- 63,800 PSI Tensile Strength
- Excellent Machinability
1018 is a low-carbon steel with a good balance of strength, ductility, and toughness. The cold drawing process used to produce this square bar increases its hardness and strength while providing a clean, scale-free surface and holding precise dimensional tolerances. It is easily welded and machined, and its predictable properties make it a dependable material for manufacturing parts where accuracy is essential. This grade is also well-suited for carburizing to increase surface hardness.
As a medium-sized bar, this 1/2" square is frequently used for general-purpose shafts, axles, bushings, and spacers in machinery. It is also an excellent choice for fabricating mounting blocks, brackets for jigs and fixtures, and other precision-machined components that require a combination of good strength and a smooth finish without extensive secondary processing.
