Overview

Hot Rolled Steel Sheets are fundamental building blocks for industrial fabrication and construction projects across Los Angeles. Produced from low-carbon steel via the hot rolling process, these sheets offer exceptional versatility and cost-effectiveness. They conform to ASTM A1011 CS Type B standards, ensuring consistent quality for professional applications. Their slightly scaled surface provides an excellent base for painting, making them suitable for both structural and aesthetic purposes.

This product is characterized by its excellent formability, allowing for simple bending or moderate drawing without cracking. This makes Hot Rolled Sheets ideal for welding projects and fabrication where malleability is crucial. For Los Angeles contractors and manufacturers, these sheets serve as reliable materials for equipment panels, toolboxes, hoppers, and drip pans.

Hot rolled sheets often serve as the base material for various processed products including galvanized steel, corrugated metal sheets, and diamond plate. Their structural integrity supports various finishes, including galvanization for corrosion resistance in outdoor environments.

Available in standard sheet sizes and various thicknesses, hot rolled steel provides the backbone for construction projects ranging from commercial buildings to industrial facilities. Their compatibility with other steel products like square tubing, C channels, and I-beams makes them essential components in comprehensive building systems.

Applications

  • Construction framing and decking
  • Equipment panels and enclosures
  • Tool boxes and storage solutions
  • Hoppers and agricultural equipment
  • Drip pans and containment
  • Base material for metal roofing panels
  • Fabrication for industrial machinery
  • Structural components for building projects
  • Automotive components and repair
  • Industrial work surfaces and tables

Weldability

  • Excellent weldability using MIG, TIG, Stick, or Flux-core processes.
  • Select filler material based on thickness and application requirements (commonly ER70S-6).
  • For optimal results, remove mill scale from the weld area before welding.
  • Preheat is generally not required for standard thicknesses but may be advised for thicker material or cold conditions.

How to Measure & Specify

Sheet Measurement Diagram Diagram showing a rectangular steel sheet with arrows indicating thickness, width, and length dimensions. Width Length Thickness

To specify Hot Rolled Sheets:

  • Thickness: Specify in gauge or decimal inches (e.g., 16 ga or 0.0598").
  • Dimensions: Provide width ? length (e.g., 48" ? 96").
  • Quantity: Number of sheets or total square feet.
  • Grade: Typically ASTM A1011 CS Type B.
  • Edges: Mill edge (as-rolled) is standard.
  • Surface: Hot-rolled with mill scale (specify if pickled & oiled is needed).

Measurement Tip: Thickness is measured with a caliper or gauge. Standard sheet sizes are typically ordered as Width ? Length ? Thickness.

Order Checklist

  • Thickness: Gauge or decimal inches
  • Dimensions: Width ? Length
  • Grade/Standard: A1011 CS Type B or other
  • Quantity: Number of sheets or total square feet
  • Edges: Mill edge or specify if sheared/slit edges required
  • Surface Condition: As-rolled (mill scale) or specify if cleaned
  • Cutting Instructions: Full sheets or specific cut sizes
  • Certifications: Mill Test Reports (MTRs) required (Yes/No)
