Hot Rolled I-Beams

Hot Rolled I-Beams

Hot Rolled I-Beams

Hot rolled I-beams are structural steel shapes with an "I"-shaped cross-section, consisting of two horizontal flanges connected by a vertical web. These beams are classified as "Structural Shapes" when at least one dimension (excluding length) is 3 inches or greater. They are fundamental components in construction and industrial applications for their excellent strength-to-weight ratio and load-bearing capacity.

Overview

Hot rolled I-beams are the backbone of modern construction and industrial projects, providing unparalleled strength and support for heavy-load applications. As a premier metal supply in Los Angeles, we offer a comprehensive range of hot rolled I-beams, including wide flange beams (W-beams) and standard American beams (S-beams), to meet the rigorous demands of commercial and industrial projects throughout the region. These structural steel components are essential for creating robust frameworks in skyscrapers, bridges, warehouse platforms, and industrial facilities where superior load-bearing capacity is non-negotiable. The distinctive I-shape profile maximizes strength-to-weight ratio, making these beams exceptionally efficient for both horizontal applications (as beams) and vertical applications (as columns). Our inventory includes various sizes suitable for everything from major structural frameworks to supporting galvanized steel roofing systems in Los Angeles. Wide flange beams feature non-tapered flanges that provide enhanced stability and weight distribution, ideal for building frames and support structures. Standard American beams with tapered flanges offer concentrated strength where load pressure is greatest, perfect for crane systems, hoists, and specialized machinery bases. Whether your project requires standard stock sizes or custom-cut lengths, our Los Angeles metal supply facility ensures quick access to high-quality steel beams with the precise specifications your project demands. We understand that professionals in construction and manufacturing need reliable partners for their steel I-beam requirements, which is why we maintain extensive inventory and offer expert technical support for all your material selection needs. Our commitment to quality means every beam meets strict industry standards for dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties, giving you confidence in your structural components. For projects requiring additional corrosion resistance, we offer galvanized finishes that provide long-term protection, making these beams suitable for exterior applications or environments with high moisture exposure. Trust our expertise as your go-to source for structural steel in Los Angeles, where quality, reliability, and service excellence come together to support your most ambitious construction ventures.

Applications

  • Structural framing for commercial and industrial buildings
  • Support beams for galvanized steel roofing systems
  • Bridge construction and rehabilitation
  • Mezzanine and platform supports
  • Crane runway systems and hoist supports
  • Column and piling applications
  • Trailer and heavy equipment manufacturing
  • Infrastructure projects throughout Los Angeles County

Weldability

  • Excellent weldability using common processes: MIG, TIG, Stick, or Flux-core.
  • Select filler material based on section thickness, joint design, position, and service requirements.
  • For optimal results, remove mill scale from the weld area prior to welding.
  • Preheat may be recommended for thicker sections or in cold environments.

How to Measure & Specify

Depth Flange Width

To specify an I-Beam:

  • Type: Specify beam type (e.g., W-beam for Wide Flange, S-beam for Standard American).
  • Designation: Provide the nominal depth and weight per foot (e.g., W8x10 = Wide Flange, 8" depth, 10 lbs/ft).
  • Length: Indicate required length in feet and inches.
  • Finish: Specify finish (mill scale, painted, galvanized).
  • Certifications: Note if Mill Test Reports (MTRs) or special tolerances are required.

Measurement Tip: Depth is the vertical height (nominal). Flange width is the horizontal measurement across the top/bottom.

Order Checklist

  • Beam Designation: Type and size (e.g., W12x16)
  • Grade: A992, A36, or other specified grade
  • Quantity: Number of pieces or total linear feet
  • Length: Exact length per piece, or standard random lengths
  • Cutting Instructions: Saw cutting tolerance, bundled, or individual
  • Certifications: Mill Test Reports (MTRs) required (Yes/No)
  • Special Handling: Galvanizing, painting, or other finishes
